The Library Board of Trustees, staff, and I would appreciate your help at the April Town Meeting. There will be either one or two articles (depending on how they are worded) on the warrant about the Library, and I want to tell you what they include so that you have a clear understanding.
In January 2014, we applied for state funding to conduct a study on the current and future needs of the Library. We will find out in June if we receive the grant. The Board of Selectmen, Town Administrator, Finance Committee and Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) Chairman Ted Caswell signed our application in support. According to Ted Caswell, this study will compliment the work of the CFAC because it will save the Town money that would otherwise have to spend. The study will cost the Town nothing, there is no liability, and the Library has sufficient funds for the local match.
You—the residents—will be asked to authorize the Board of Trustees to proceed with a feasibility study and a schematic design, and secondly, authorize the Board of Trustees to “apply for, accept and expend” the funds. We appreciate the generous support you have provided the Library in the past, and hope we may depend on your ‘yes’ vote in April to move this project forward.
